welcome...
my background ...
At school, my main interest was in science and I went on to read maths at Cambridge. That led to postgraduate work at Leeds University in fluid mechanics – so far my only (tenuous) connection with paints. At that stage I intended to work in the aircraft industry and I was offered a job working on the Concorde project but, because of the uncertain future of the industry at that time (1965), I opted for a change of direction and became a teacher.
For the next forty years or so I taught maths – first at Lancaster Grammar School and then as Head of Mathematics at both Nunthorpe Grammar School York and York Sixth Form College. I ended up working for York University and the Open University.
The change from maths teacher to artist took place gradually over this period. About ten years ago my interest in painting really took off. At first I was an evening class painter at York College but later I enrolled as an HND student in Fine Art at the College. I followed success in that with three years working on my own in a small studio at home.
